Get moving with Fall City Days Fun Run

There's no better vista on Fall City than the annual Fall City Days Fun Run, a foot race for all ages at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 19.

There’s no better vista on Fall City than the annual Fall City Days Fun Run, a foot race for all ages at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 19.

Runners can choose from a five-kilometer (3.1 miles) course, the full 10K (6.2 miles), and a children’s 1K fun run. More than 500 runners are expected to take part.

The flat, fast course starts and ends at Farmhouse Market, runs out of Fall City and back, passing classic Valley scenery.

Runners will see the Fall City bridge, downtown, local farms and the Snoqualmie River.

“It’s a good, healthy option to be involved in,” said Kirk Dunckel, race organizer and principal at Fall City Elementary School. “It brings families and communities together.

The race is a favorite for walkers and competitive runners alike. Participants tend to stick around after the end of the run, because the annual Fall City Days parade begins shortly thereafter.

All proceeds from the run benefit students and staff in Snoqualmie Valley schools. Participants can earmark $5 from every registration to go to the school of their choice, ensuring that the race benefits schools from beyond Fall City.

The race is volunteer-run; no-one gets paid, Dunckel said.

“We’re doing it for the love of the event,” he said.

Run for life

Dunckel promotes the race among youth, in an effort to inspire physical fitness habits for life.

“It can only lead to good, healthy practices for kids,” Dunckel said.

The Fall City run is part of the Valley Cup, among runs in Carnation, Snoqualmie and Duvall that draw top runners to the Valley. The winner of the cup gets a cash prize.

The next run after Fall City Days is the Carnation Fourth of July Run for the Pies.

The Fall City run offers trophies and ribbons for three categories in different age groups. All children’s race runners get a shirt.
