If you happen to be a Mount Si girls basketball fan, Spokane was the place to be the weekend of June 21 and 22.
The Wildcats were well represented in two big events in the inland empire.
Mount Si’s girls program took three teams that weekend to the Lilac City for the Gonzaga Summer Shootout tournament, featuring teams from all over the Northwest.
The Wildcat varsity upperclassmen played as a team in the Large School Varsity Division, and went 2-3. Mount Si faced opponents from Spokane, Post Falls, Idaho, and Great Falls, Mont., among other locales, and had good close games throughout.
The Mount Si sophomores played as a group in the Large and Small School Junior Varsity division. This team took the division title, going undefeated at 6-0. They played several schools from Spokane and surrounding areas. The team consisted of players Jori Braun, Haley Chase, Hailey Eddings, Rachel Finnegan, Kylie Jacobs, Aubrey Larion, Kassidy Maddux, Stevie Riley, and Maggie Robinson, and was coached by Ryan Hill and Dirk Hansen.
A third team consisting of up-and-coming talent, including several incoming freshmen, played in a separate pool against teams from all over eastern Washington. They went 5-1, with their lone loss coming in their pool final against Gonzaga Prep.
Meanwhile, across town, Wildcat senior-to-be Caitie Richards played in the All-State game held at West Valley High School. Richards, the lone Kingco representative on the team, had 10 assists, helping lead her West squad to a blowout 62-39 win over the East. Richards also participated in the Gonzaga tournament, with her varsity teammates, so she had quite a busy time over there.
