Former Mount Si basketball great Rachel Mitchell is the new head girls basketball coach at Episcopal High School of Jacksonville, Fla.

Mitchell, under her maiden name of Travis, was a star player on the Mount Si girls basketball team from 2001 to 2005, under former coach Dirk Hansen. She played for four years at Northwest University in Kirkland, graduating in 2009.

This is the first varsity head coaching job for Mitchell, who assisted Hansen part-time on the staff with the Wildcats.

At Mount Si, she was a four-year starter, three-year team Most Valuable Player, consistently named “Player of the Week,” and achieved First Team All Conference multiple years. During her off season, Mitchell coached Varsity Basketball for three years at Mount Si. She also taught physical education at her high school during her senior year of college. During her college summer vacations, she was an instructor at Quick Handle Basketball Camp and at Mount Si Girl’s Summer Camp.

Mitchell’s achievements on the court at Northwest University included being selected as team captain three years in a row, starting for the team almost her entire college experience, and being chosen for Academic All Conference her senior year.

“I am very excited and honored to become a part of the Girls’ Basketball Program at Episcopal High School,” Mitchell said. “I am committed to guiding this team to the next level and making this season successful. My goal is to create an environment in which our students’ talent can flourish.”

“I am delighted to have Rachel Mitchell joining the Episcopal coaching staff to grow our Girls Basketball program. She brings the passion and experience we need for the program to excel,” said Keesy Goebertus, Episcopal’s Athletic Department Interim Director.
