Mount Si High School’s top-seeded boys basketball team took on Kentwood High School in the opening round of the state tournament Feb. 24, the number one seed with a trip to the quarterfinals up for grabs.
The Wildcats sprinted past the Conquerors in the second half en route to a 83-62 victory.
A big part of Mount Si’s success against the Conks was the transition offense that Wildcats ran — essentially blowing right past Conk defenders. Mount Si seemed to not miss a shot in the second half and crushed Kentwood’s dreams of any comeback.
“They used their speed in transition. That is mainly where they beat us, it’s mainly where we lost the game. They’re fast and we didn’t do a good enough job to get back on defense,” said Kentwood’s Corey Tita.
For the Wildcats, leading scorers were senior Trevor Henning with 23 points, sophomore Latt Ford with 17 points, and senior Blake Forrest with 14 points.
The Wildcats play the winner of the Jackson-Tahoma matchup Feb. 29.
