Leaders are emerging as the Mount Si girls tennis team works its way through a busy season.

The visiting Eastlake Wolves dominated the Wildcats, taking eight of nine matches during play Tuesday, April 21.

The lone Mount Si win was in doubles, as Bailey Barnard and Kaitlyn Usselman fought off a solid effort from Eastlake’s Kristin Dorr and Kory Sprouts. The Wildcat pair took the match 7-6, 6-4.

Jodie Magnuson put up a spirited fight for the Wildcats in her singles match against Olivia Salak, but fell 4-6, 2-6.

Barnard has been impressive in recent matches. Along with her doubles win, she took a pair of singles matches recently, against Juanita’s Hang Nelson on April 13 and Garfield’s Sherry Tran on April 14. Barnard also won a doubles match with Shelby Thomas last Thursday, April 23, beating Redmond’s Allie Misner and Alex Wilson, 8-6. That was the Wildcats’ lone win against the Mustangs.

Magnuson has been solid, too, beating Sammamish’s Georgina Foster Thursday, April 16 in come-from-behind fashion, and putting up great fights against several other opponents.

The season continues to be a battle for Allie Van Bryce, who put up great efforts in her April 13 match against Juanita’s Clair Anderson, falling 4-6, 6-4, 4-6.

The busy Wildcats traveled east of the Cascades on Saturday, April 11, to a tournament in Selah. Mount Si worked hard, but fell to Wapato and host Selah by just one point apiece. Ussleman, Magnuson and Alix Crandell won two matches each to lead the effort. Van Bryce, Thomas, Lauren Wood and Lindsay Masters also won matches for Mount Si in the tournament.
