Kings of the mountain: Mount Si track and field dominates in home meet

Mount Si had a commanding presence at its home track meet Thursday, April 21, against Lake Washington. Both boys and girls teams dominated most events against the Kangs. Kaleb Heurta led all comers in the men’s 100 meter race, followed by Shane Blankenburg at second, with times of 11.5 and 11.6 seconds. Blankenburg led Huerta in the 200 meter race, taking first with 23.4 seconds to Huerta’s 23.8 seconds. Mason Bragg took first in the 400 meter race.

Mount Si’s 400 meter split relay team of Jimbo Davis, Tyler Button, Nate Chase and Huerta won the 400 meter relay. Levi Botten, Ryan Olson and Collin Norman-Peery dominated the 800-meter race.

In the 1600 meter race, Mount Si took the top five spots, with Dominick Canady, Tom Kirby, Ben Houldridge, Landon Storrud and Spencer Ricks. In the 3200 meter race, Richard Carmichael and Tim Corrie led with 10.25 and 10.42 seconds apiece.

At 110 meter hurdles, Mount Si held the top four places, with Nate Chase, Bradley Stevens, John Proctor and Emmitt Rudd. In the 300 hurdles, Chase bested Lake Washington’s Filip Juric for first place with 41.9 seconds. In the 4X400 relay, Chase, Huerta, Davis and Button claimed the top spot with 3:38.

For field events, Mount Si’s Kolton Auxier dominated shotput with a 51’1” put.

At discus, Doc Derwin led a bevy of Mount Si dominators with a 130’4” throw. Zach Storm led a top-three javelin contingent with 173’8” hurl. Ryan Olson had a 5’4” high jump to lead that category, while Jake Rouches led with a 10’6” pole vault.

Emmitt Rudd took second in the long jump to the Kangs’ Robert Reyes, with a 17’3.25 leap. Elijah Mayfield led a top-three lockdown of the triple jump with a 36’10” series.

Girls results

In the 100 meter race, freshman Jesse Guyer and junior Sophie Rockow held first and second places with times of 13 and 13.3 seconds. Rockow won the 200 meter race with 27.1 seconds, besting Lake Washington’s Anneke Kniestedt.

In the 400 meter race, Wildcat Lindsay Kirby won the 400 meter race, while Christina Volken, Abbey Bottemiller, Kirby and Madeleine Hutchison capped the 400 meter relay split. In the 800 meter race, Volken led with 2:28.6. Freshman Bailey Scott led in the 1600 meter race with 5:26.9, and took the 3,200 meter race with a time of 12:16.6

Ashley Jackson led all comers in 100 meter hurdles with 18 seconds, also leading in the 300 meter hurdles with 50.7.

Mount Si’s team of Abbey Bottemiller, Rockow, Guyer and Kristin Kasel led the 4X100 meter relay with 52.1 In the 4X200 relay, Mount Si’s Sydney Dore, Madelyn Esteb, Hutchison and Kennedi Norris led with 1:59.1. The 4X400 relay team of Bottemiller, Volken, Kirby and Hutchison took second to Lake Washington’s foursome with 4:23.

In shot put, Wildcat Sydney Lombard led with a 27-foot put, Leslie Stevens dominated discus with an 84’1” launch, and also topped the javelin list with a 102’3” blast.

Lexi Swanson led in the high jump with 4’4” and had a dominating 9 foot pole vault. Jackson topped all comers at long jump with a 14’9” leap, and Stevens led in triple jump with 33’9”.
