Valley Little League baseball programs were hopping last week, as all-star teams from various age groups competed in district tournaments.
In the Majors tournament for 11 and 12 year olds, the Snoqualmie Valley Little League all-star team fell in heartbreaking fashion in their first game against Issaquah on Saturday, July 5.
Snoqualmie Valley rallied from that defeat and won four straight games in the loser-out bracket before falling last Friday, July 11 to Redmond West.
Tyler Townsley was the key weapon for SVLL during their run, picking up a couple of wins on the mound and also hitting several home runs that proved critical.
Meanwhile, Fall City’s team was eliminated after two straight losses to open the tournament.
Younger players also played in their district tournaments. In the minors tournament for 9- and 10-year-old players, Fall City’s squad fell twice to open the tournament, and was eliminated. However, they gave it their best efforts against Sammamish National on Sunday, July 6, as George Fuller hit two triples and Michael Noelke hit a pair of doubles.
Snoqualmie Valley fell in their first game, and was on the verge of being eliminated by Redmond North last Tuesday, July 8, before a pair of players combined for a heroic win. Darren Breshears and Cooper Morrison each drove in runs in the final inning to help SVLL come back and win the game 4-3. Snoqualmie Valley then fell to Sno-Valley North last Thursday, July 10, ending their season.
In the competition for 10- and 11-year-old players, Fall City brought out some solid offense, as they put up the runs in all three of their games. However, they fell in two of those, and were sent home. The one win they had was Sunday, July 6 against Sno-Valley North, a 12-2 decision. Calean Coburn, Austen Haner and Graham Griffin led the way offensively for Fall City in that rout.
Snoqualmie Valley opened the event with two losses and was eliminated as well.
In the juniors event for 13- and 14-year-old players, Snoqualmie Valley put together a solid offensive display, but fell in both of their games and was sent home. Mike Walters and Henry Owens were among the SVLL hitters who had excellent efforts in this tournament. Owens had two doubles in the event and Walters tripled in a loss to Sno-Valley North. Fall City did not have a team in this event.
Winners from the district events advanced to state Little League tournaments.
