McLaughlin dominates running events Track teams split meet

The Mount Si High School boys’ and girls’ track teams hosted Issaquah and Bellevue last week.

The boys walked away with a win, 77 points to Issaquah at 49 and Bellevue at 49.

The girls’ came away with 70.5 points, losing to Issaquah with 79.5 but doing better than Bellevue’s 45 points.

For the boys, it was all about Frank McLaughlin, who posted three first-place finishes. McLaughin won the 100 meter in a time of 11 seconds flat, took first in the 200 meter with a time of 22 seconds, and finally won the 400 meter in a time of 49.7 seconds.

Teammate Colin Alexander won the 800 meter and placed second in the 400 meter.

The Wildcats also won several of the throwing events. Josh Davis took first in the discus with a throw of 161 feet, and teammate Zach Strom won the javelin with a throw of 151 feet, nine inches. Davis also took second in the shot, followed by Ryan Ransavage and Jake Tweten, who took third and fourth respectively. Brandon Roddewig won the high jump, clearing five feet, six inches, as well as the pole vault, clearing 12 feet, six inches.

Several other Wildcats did well. Shelby Williams took fourth in the 100 meter as well as the 200 meter, Drake da Ponte took second in the 1,600 meter, Owen Strom took second in the 3,200 meter, and Zach Pearlstein took second in the triple jump. Alexander took third in the pole vault, followed by Lucas Eiffert, who took fourth. Tweten took second in discus, followed by Zach Brevick and Aaron Moetului. Kyle Stevens took second in the javelin to round out the efforts.

For the girls, the throwers and the relay team won their events. The team of Helen Hasbun, Kayla McLain, Symone Shaw and Katie Woolsey won the 4X100 relay in a time of 51.3 seconds. In the javelin, Woolsey pulled out a win with a distance of 93 feet, four inches. Woolsey also took second in the 200 meter. Teammate Summer Nash won the high jump, clearing four feet, 10 inches. Teammate Diane Keller took second in that event. In the 100 meter hurdles, Keller took second and Nash took third.

There were several other great performances. Hasbun took third in the 100 meters while McLain took third in the 200 meters. Taylor Robbins took fourth in the 400 meters, Megan Past took third in the 800 meters and Alex Rudd took third in the 1,600 meters. Kelly Besmer took second in the 3,200 meter and Katie Hogan took third. In the 300 meter low hurdles, Lauren Snead took third. The team of Keller, Hasbun, Natalie Opsvig and McLain took second in the 4X200 relay, and the team of Marley Robbins, Taylor Robbins, Past and Woolsey took third in the 4X400 relay. Katelyn Walker had a personal best throw of 34 feet, 10 inches to take third in the shot, and Alisha Larion took fourth with a personal best throw. Kelsey Tarp took third in the discus with a personal best throw, and the Wildcats dominated the javelin behind the winner Woolsey. Molly Meyers took second, Emily Feree took third and Walker took fourth. For the pole vault, Besmer took second and Marley Robbins took fourth. In the long jump, Symone Shaw took second and Hasbun took fourth. Shaw also took second in the triple jump, and Stephanie Burk took third.
