SMS boys

defeat Islanders


All three Snoqualmie Middle School boys’ track teams came home recently with victories against Mercer Island Middle School.

For the eighth-grade boys, Brian Mauhl took first in the 1,600 meters, first in the discus and second in the shot put.

Chris Brennan captured first in the hurdles and second in the 400-meter race. Cody Hyatt took first in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes.

Levi Nelson was first in the long jump and third in the 100-meter dash. Tanner Powers came in second in the long jump, as well as the 100-meter dash. Jason Townzen won first place in the high jump and earned second in the 800-meter race.

Jordan Lamborn ran his best time and nabbed first in the 400-meter race and a second in the 200-meter dash.

The eighth-grade team finished the day with a score of 82.

The seventh-grade boys had a very successful day as well, with 12 first-place finishes, seven second-place finishes and five third-place finishes.

Firsts went to Keith Keller in the hurdles and discus, Aaron Nichter in the 1,600 meters, Justice Manson in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash, Kyle Wiley-Fulton in the 400 meters and the long jump, and Adam Davies in the high jump and shot put.

Second place went to Daniel Floyd in the 400 meters, Davies in the 800 meters, Brian Johnson in the 200 meters, Danny Jepson in the discus, Marshall Lloyd in the shot put and Keller in the high jump.

The seventh-grade team earned 86 points.

Finally, the sixth-grade team had many highlights and scored 83 points.

First place went to Kevin Ormiston in the hurdles, Drake daPonte in the 1,600 meters, 400 meters, 800 meters and high jump, Taylor McCain in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and Frank McLaughlin in the shot put and the long jump.

All three Snoqualmie Middle School girls’ track teams ran to victory against Mercer Island recently.

The SMS eighth-grade girls posted wins in every event. Leading the team was Chelsie Eddings, who took first place in the 75-meter hurdles. She took first-place honors against all seventh and eighth-grade girl hurdlers and set a new personal record.

Nicole Remish, Alina Plavsky and Collette Hatch set new personal records and broke into the top 10 lists in their events.

Remish ran an outstanding 100-meter dash in a time of 13.8 seconds. Plavsky threw the discus 79 feet and Hatch ran the 800-meter race in 2 minutes, 49.2 seconds.

The girl’s 800-meter and medley relay teams also made it into the all-time top five category. The very speedy 800 team of Remish, Hatch, Kali Walker and Jordan Tipton placed second on the list with a time of 2:00.8.

The medley team of Remish, Tollefson, Walker and Tove Garhart ran 2:20.5 for first place.

Erin Dunklee, Robyn Pearson and Allyson Rosman pulled together and made it a team effort by sweeping the mile with a 1-2-3 finish.

In the seventh-grade meet the Eagles came out on top with a 52-44 score.

First-place finishes came from Tephra Brune in the 400 meters and shot put, Kassy Kramer in the 200 meters and Kayla Grant in the long jump. Both the 800-meter and medley relay teams also ran to first place.

Other outstanding performances came from the Patterson twins, Julie and Carrie, finishing second and third in the 1,600 meters. Normally the girls are throwers for the team, but they jumped in to fill an event and ran their best times ever.

Following in the winner’s circle, the SMS sixth-grade girls ruled with a 58-39 win over the Islanders.

Taking home first-place finishes were Tana Thompson in the 1,600 meters, Marianna Zanella in the 100-meter dash, Kelsey Simpson in the 800 meters, Cailee Olson in the discus, Kelsey Wise in the 400 meters and April Keogh in the long jump and 200 meters. The 800-meter relay also placed first.

Second place went to Zanella in the hurdles and shot put, Kristen Townzen in the discus and Thompson in the 800 meters.


SMS girls sweep Thunderbirds


The Snoqualmie Middle Schools girls’ track teams swept all three meets against the Tolt Middle School Team with the sixth, seventh and eighth grade winning.

Working with only half of their roster, the eighth-grade Eagles pulled together for a 65-36 victory.

Posting first-place finishes and new personal bests were Alina Plavsky in the discus with a throw of 80 feet, 9 inches and Jordan Tipton in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.7 seconds.

Plavsky also took first in the shot put while Tipton placed first in the 200-meter race and long jump. She also went on to anchor the 800-meter relay with the team of Erika Jenson, Collette Hatch and Krista Tollefson.

Hatch was also a double winner for the day, placing first in both the 400- and 800-meter races. Tove Garhart and Erin Dunklee went 1-2 in the mile, and Garhart also picked up a second in the 200 meters.

Chelsie Eddings placed first in the hurdles. Tollefson posted a second in high jump and Allyson Rosman took second in discus and third in the shot put.

The medley relay team of Jenson, Dunklee, Tollefson and Garhart placed first, as did the 400-meter relay team of Jenson, Tollefson, Dunklee and Rosman.

The seventh-grade girls also had an impressive outing by posting a 59-31 win over Tolt.

Taking first place for the team were Katie Stapleton in the 1,600 meters, Kassy Kramer in the 200 meters, Kayla Grant in the long jump, Jenna Barnes in the discus and Tephra Brune in the shot.

Second-place finishers were Anika Granillo in the hurdles, Kramer in the 100-meter dash, Stapleton in the 200 meters, Brune in the discus, Nikki Alskog in the long jump and Danielle Carlson in the high jump.

The sixth-grade girls, finding themselves a little light on the roster, still managed the 61-35 victory over Tolt.

April Keogh was a triple winner for the meet, placing first in the 100-meter dash, 200 meter and long jump.

Other first-place finishers were Kelsey Wise in the hurdles, Cailee Olson in the discus and Kristen Townzen in the shot.
