Tolt nearly
upsets Issaquah
The talk around the league was how is anyone going to defeat Issaquah this year. Tolt’s eighth-grade girls’ basketball team nearly pulled it off last week in an exciting 50-43 game.
The Thunderbirds shocked Issaquah by jumping out to an early 15-10 lead. The game then see-sawed to the end, but the powerhouse Issaquah team pulled out the win.
The Thunderbirds shot an amazing 58 percent from the field and surprisingly only went to the free-throw line one time. The offense was executing so well it created early shots. The defense played great and gave the team a chance for the upset.
Karen Lawton scored 16 points on 8-for-11 shooting. Jamie Coe had her best performance with 10 points, seven assists and eight steals. Emily Oakes added eight points and Stephanie Whims scored seven with 10 boards.
“It was a good team effort as each player contributed something to this fun game. I couldn’t be any more proud of these girls,” said coach Hough.
