The Mount Si boys golf team closed out its regular season last Thursday, Oct. 8, on a strong note, using a top senior star to take care of business.

Bradley Harrelson shot an even par round of 36 that earned him the medalist honors as Mount Si narrowly defeated the Skyline Spartans, 185-187, at Mount Si Golf Course in Snoqualmie.

Harrelson played a solid round, grabbing a birdie on the first hole to set things in motion. He bogeyed the fifth hole, but parred the remaining holes to grab the top spot.

A slew of golfers shot one-over-par rounds of 37, including ‘Cats Jack Kelly, Bryce Karalus and Cooper Helm, and Skyline’s A.J. Taylor, Cole Clearman and Nathan Stephenson. Kelly’s round was keyed by birdies on both the second and seventh holes. Karalus and Helm also got early birdies to help pace their rounds. Four more golfers carded scores of 38; those players were Mount Si’s Matt Prewett and Skyline’s Kent Quickstad, Jack Quinton and Darius Lalier. Prewett had a birdie on the par-3 fourth hole to aid his efforts.

The close finish last Thursday was on top of another close contest Tuesday, Oct. 6. The Wildcats were on the short end of the 202-206 decision against Interlake, with the Saints getting the winning lower score. Harrelson, Kelly, and Interlake’s Patrick Sato and Joe Botkins all shared medalist honors, carding rounds of 39.

The postseason begins this week for Mount Si, with the Kingco Tournament at Snohomish Golf Course, then continues next week at the Sea-King District Tournament, at Harbour Pointe Golf Club in Mukilteo. Mount Si will be defending both their league and district titles in these events, as they begin their defense of the state title they won earlier this summer. The state tournament for this school year takes place next spring in the Tri-Cities.

Look for the Wildcats to advance as many as five or six golfers to state, led by the likes of Harrelson and Kelly. Mount Si has shown itself to be among the deepest teams in 3A this season, and players such as Karalus, Helm, Prewett, Mitchell Gardunia and Brandon Snyder could also find their way through the league and districts to make state.
