The Mount Si girls’ soccer team had a solid week, but one dampened by another costly loss.

The Wildcats opened their efforts last Monday, Sept. 29, with a tight 1-0 win over the Interlake Saints. Senior forward Nikki Stanton scored the game’s lone goal in the 12th minute for Mount Si, then it was hang-on time for the defense, as the Wildcats shut down the Saints the rest of the way to take the victory.

Last Wednesday, Oct. 1, Mount Si traveled to Bellevue, and the Wildcats were expecting a tough challenge. Bellevue, with their star forward Kate Bennett, was tabbed as the preseason favorite to win the Kingco 3A this season, and Bennett, as Mount Si fans saw last year, looks to be just as good as former Issaquah star Kate Deines, who gave the Wildcats fits during her high school career.

A couple things happened, though, that completely changed things. One, the Mount Si offense clicked; and two, Bellevue was without Bennett. Those two factors combined to help the Wildcats grab a victory. Stephanie Burk scored a pair of goals, and Hailey Conway added the game-winner, as Mount Si got a big three points with a 3-2 overtime victory over the Wolverines.

Last Saturday night, Oct. 4, the Wildcats looked to build off that huge victory, but it was back to normal for Mount Si, as the offense, despite their best efforts, struggled to find the net in a 1-0 loss to Juanita in front of a large crowd at Mount Si High School.

Many of the fans in attendance were representing 24 teams from the Snoqualmie Valley Youth Soccer Association as part of SVYSA Appreciation Night, and the young players from those teams formed a tunnel that the Wildcats ran under during pregame introductions.
