With an incessant downpour, balls changed direction on the Mount Si soccer field in mid-kick and players kicked up sprays of water with every step.

But the Wildcats were in their element Friday, April 1, shutting out the visiting Juanita team, 4-0, in their second win of the week.

“It was really distribution across the board,” said Mount Si head coach Darren Brown. “We’ve been trying to get the kids to play more direct, get more chances up front, and it’s starting to happen.”

Mount Si sophomore Johnny Cramer, a center defender, picked up the first goal on the night, his third of the week.

“He’s a great player, one of my stars,” Brown said.

Goals also came in from Dane Aldrich, Eric Baumgardner and Cody Clearman.

With Mount Si in control of the ball for much of the contest, Brown switched out senior goalkeeper Dillon Oord for sophomore Alex Anderson. That allowed the senior to roam up front, while Anderson made a couple key saves.

“He’s our keeper for the future,” Brown said. “I want to give him a little time.”

Brown and assistant coach Ben Tomlisson were also impressed with play by Nate Popp.

“He’s been a playmaker for us, him and Eric,” Tomlisson said. “Nate developed with Kyle (Bauman) and Eric in midfield, pulling the strings.”

Tomlisson noted the Rebels’ never-say-die attitude.

“They fight to the last man, regardless of the score, credit to them for that,” he said. “Our boys had to battle them. That’s what KingCo is like. You have to be on for every game, and we were tonight.”

Mount Si plays on the road at Interlake, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Next up, the Wildcats play Tuesday, April 12, at Mercer Island. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
