Mount Si’s track and field athletes head to state competition

Several Mount Si athletes qualified for the track and field state championship meet at the WesCo/KingCo Bi-District Championships on Friday, May 20 at Lake Stevens High School.

Several Mount Si athletes qualified for the track and field state championship meet at the WesCo/KingCo Bi-District Championships on Friday, May 20 at Lake Stevens High School.

The top four finishers in each event qualified to compete at the state meet.

With a first-place finish in the 200-meter at 22.13 and third place in the 100-meter at 11.32, Jacob Belceto qualified to attend the state meet, competing in both events.

Joe and Hannah Waskom also qualified in the 3200-meter, with Hannah qualifying in the 1600-meter as well. Joe finished fourth with a 9:14.76 time and Hannah finished second with 10:48.46. In the 1600, she placed third with a time of 4:59.51.

Andrew Harris finished the 110-meter hurdles in 15.36, earning a third-place finish and qualification for the state meet.

Two students competing in javelin throwing also qualified. Jacob Wachtendonk took first place and Dustin Robey took second in the event.

The state championship meet is scheduled for Thursday through Saturday, May 26 to 28, at Mount Tahoma High School.
