The Mount Si boys’ golf team has started off this season strong, right where they left off last fall.
One senior in particular has made an impact. Bradley Harrelson was the individual medalist, or top overall finisher, in both Wildcat matches played and won last week
Harrelson’s efforts proved key in leading the Wildcats to a 179-184 victory Thursday, Sept. 17, over Eastlake. Harrelson carded a round of 33, three strokes below the par-36 Mount Si Golf Course layout in Snoqualmie.
The big hole for Harrelson was the par-5 seventh hole, which he eagled. Jack Kelly and Mitchell Gardunia also had excellent rounds; both shot 35. Eastlake had two competitors also fire rounds of 35 to lead the Wolves’ attack: Li Wang and Chris Kobak.
“A close match, but a great team effort by the boys,” said Mount Si coach Mike Johnston. Team scores included the five lowest individual scores; in addition to the three players mentioned, Bryce Karalus and Cooper Helm rounded things out with 38s to pace the Wildcats.
Mount Si opened the week last Monday, Sept. 14, by taking care of the Liberty Patriots. Harrelson eagled the first hole, a par-4, en route to another round of 33 which earned him the medalist award. The 33 translated to another three-under-par round, this on the par-36 Maplewood Golf Course in Renton.
Harrelson’s performance enabled the Wildcats to win 192-214 over the Patriots. Kelly carded a 35 and Karalus fired a 36 over nine holes to pace Mount Si. Gardunia added a 42 and Doc Derwin made the cut with a 46. Chris Han and Sean Pittman each shot rounds of 41 to lead Liberty.
Mount Si is home Thursday, Sept. 24, against Sammamish. Tee time at Mount Si Golf Course is 3:30 p.m.
