Chief Kanim announces football awards

The coaches of the Chief Kanim Middle School eighth-grade

football program have announced the team’s 1999 individual award winners.

They are as follows: Most Valuable Player: Mike Lindor;

Offensive Player: Curtiss Dorr; Defensive Player:

Gary Conner; Lineman: Grant Nelson; Most Improved: Ian Opsal;

Coaches’ Award: Eric McCammon, Tyler Strandjord; Inspirational: Trevor Sleeman;

Best All-around: Phil Collins, Brad Trombley; and Outstanding

Loyalty: Cody Barrus, Alex Behrend, Ben Kruse, Ben Mills and

Chase Robinson.

Basketball camp to be held for fifth-graders

A Junior Big Man Camp will be held for future posts and centers,

fifth-grade boys only, must be 5’2 or taller. Four sessions are planned for 1:30

to 3 p.m. on Nov. 14 and 21, and Dec. 5 and 12 at Bellevue Community

College field house. Cost is $100. The camp is limited to 40 participants.

Da Ponte

runs again

Drake da Ponte placed second out of 25 in the 9/10 boys division of

the Pacific Northwest Track and Field Association Cross Country

Championships, held recently at Lower Woodland Park. Da Ponte covered

the 2,000-meter course in 12:03, which is a 2-k personal record and four

seconds faster than the mark he set in a league race two weeks ago.

Da Ponte will race in the Regional USTAF Cross Country

Championships in Portland on Saturday, Nov. 20. If he places in the top 20, he

will qualify for the National USTAF Cross Country Championships in

South Carolina on Dec. 4.

Ed Dietz gets hole-in-one

While the good weather may be heading south for the winter,

that hasn’t prevented golfers from taking to the links at Mount Si Golf

Course. Last week, another one scored his first-ever hole-in-one.

The honoree was Bellevue’s Ed Dietz, who put it in the cup on the

first shot at the 184-yard par-three eleventh hole. Dietz used a driver to record

the shot on Wednesday, Nov. 3.
