compete at state

Gymnastics East recently competed in the Level five and six 2009 State Championships, held Saturday, May 2, at Glacier Peak High School.

Level five gymnasts grabbed fourth place with 185.7 points, and Level six gymnasts took first place with 185.5 points. Team member Abby Weber took eighth place in all-around competition with a score of 35.8 in her age 10 group.

Lady Eagles pick up wins at Tolt

The Snoqualmie Middle School girls track team traveled to Cedarcrest High School on Thursday, April 30, for a dual meet with Tolt Middle School.

For the eighth grade team, Nadja Beattie easily won at hurdles and went on to capture another first in the long jump and a third in the 400-meter race.

Teammate Katie Huerta took home a first in the 800-meter race and a second in the high jump. Kassandra Teran took second in the 100-meter race and shot put and third in the discus. Kim Anderson picked up a second in the long jump and third in the high jump.

The seventh grade girls team won, 63-35. Capturing individual first place finishes for the Lady Eagles were Celine Fowler in the hurdles, Erin Rylands in the 1,600-meter race, Alanna Hayes in the 800-meter race, Kristen Kasel in the 100-meter dash, Madeleine Hutchinson in the 400-meter race and Erica Hookland in the discus. Taking second place ribbons were Kasel in the hurdles and high jump, Fowler in the 100-meter race and Hutchinson at long jump.

In third place were Sydney Young in the 200-meter race and Hookland in the long jump. The medley relay team of Young, Sara Pierce, Hutchinson and Hayes placed first, as did the 800 relay team of Fowler, Pierce, Hookland and Kasel.

For sixth grade girls, Johanna Cranford had two individual first place finishes in the 100-meter race and high jump. Zoe Virta had a first in the hurdles and anchored the medley relay team of Cranford, Jesse Wright and Katie Kutner to another first. Virta also finished third in the high jump. Jesse Wright took second in the 100-meter race and high jump.
