in volleyball play
The Chief Kanim Middle School eighth-grade girls team swept the Snoqualmie Middle School Eagles 21-12, 21-6, and 21-15 on Wednesday, Oct. 8. Outstanding servers of the game included Danielle Curley, who served 16 in a row in game two to give the Lady Hawks a commanding lead. Shannon Fisher scored nine points total to help the Hawks to victory. Lauren Smith had three kills on the night with great pass control, and Kaylie Capoleuto and Gen Knoppi were strong forces to be reckoned with. The Hawks are 5-1 so far this season.
The seventh-grade varsity team defeated the Eagles on Wednesday, Oct. 8, winning all three games. Outstanding servers on the night were Rachel Picchena, Lael McDonald and Sophia Rouches, all with five, and Devon Wattenbarger had nine serves. Sabrina Saechao had several good plays, and Rouches did an outstanding job receiving the Eagle serves. The seventh-grade team is 5-1 so far this year.
CMKS football defeats Tolt
The Chief Kanim Middle School varsity football team hosted Tolt last Thursday, Oct. 9. Coaching staff said the team played excellent football, winning the game 40-6.
The offensive line fired on all cylinders, with strong blocking from Jared Schattenkerk, Blake Herman, Liam Wright, Shad Schreiber, and Zack Blazevich. The rushing attack controlled the game, gaining 152 yards on eight carries. With skilled pass blocking, Erik Stai was also able to move the ball in the air, gaining 61 yards with receptions from Griffin McLain, Conor Klupar, Eli Gogan, and Austin Hall. Cameron VanWinkle had another perfect day, kicking five extra points with his foot. Defensively, the Hawks controlled the Thunderbirds’ Wing-T offense. Standout performers included Shad Schreiber, Jared Schattenkerk, Cole Palmer, and Gabe Wattenbarger. Alec Holt reeled in two interceptions for the team; one was returned for a touchdown.
The Hawks will host Twin Falls on Thursday, Oct. 16.
