Trenkamp named to Charleston Southern first squad

Mount Si grad Amy Trenkamp has been named to the Charleston Southern University softball program’s first team.

Trenkamp, who hails from North Bend and graduated from Mount Si in 2005, is now part of the Big South conference.

She played shortstop on the 2004 Wildcat team which finished runner-up at state, and was one of four ex-Wildcats playing for four-year colleges this spring. Other players include Kyleen Sweepe at Central Washington University, Kandis Clesson at Idaho State and Katie Shaw at Pacific Lutheran University.

Karate instructor receives 10th degree belt

Shudokai Karate instructor Jim Curtis, of North Bend, has received his 10th Degree Black Belt in Shudokai Karate Jutsu from the International Association of Martial Artists.

Curtis is now registering students for on-going AAU Karate Club classes this summer at Twin Falls Middle School.

He teaches Shudokai Karate classes for all ages, 6 to 7 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday at Twin Falls. No experience is required. The cost is $60 per month.

Shudokai is a practical Okinawan style that teaches self-defense.
