to play at Safeco
The Mount Si High School boys varsity baseball team is headed to the big show this weekend, playing at Safeco Field this Saturday, April 11, against Auburn-Mountain View. Game time is 4 p.m., and admission is free.
This will be senior night for the boys, and boosters are seeking to fill up the lower-level stadium seats with Mount Si fans.
“The community has been wonderful, supporting the baseball program by purchasing Mariner tickets for the April 21 game against the Rays,” boosters member Polly Breshears told the Record. “This is their reward.”
As long as 1,000 tickets are sold, Mount Si will be invited to play in the tournament next year, Breshears said.
Hansen resigns as girls’ coach
Dirk Hansen is stepping down as Mount Si head coach for girls’ basketball.
Hansen has coached basketball for 11 years at Mount Si, the past 10 as the head coach of the girls’ program.
“Coaching basketball is a very time consuming and challenging coaching assignment,” Hansen stated. “At this time, I am looking forward to spending more time with my wife and five children, as well as focusing on the master’s degree program that I have started in administration.”
During the past 10 years Hansen has led the Wildcats to the playoffs in the Sea-King District seven times. He coached three league MVPs during his tenure, and in 2005, he was voted by his peers as the KingCo Conference Basketball Coach of the Year.
Hansen will continue to teach physical education and serve as an assistant coach in the football and fastpitch programs at Mount Si.
While the open coaching position has not yet been posted, details will be forthcoming from the Snoqualmie Valley School District personnel department.
Gymnasts take part in state meet
Three local gymnasts from Puget Sound Gymnastics and Dance competed in the Level 7 State Gymnastics tournament, held Saturday, March 28 at Seattle Pacific University.
Competing in the Junior B 11- and 12 year-old age group, Mikaelyn Davis had a season record all-around score of 37.15, earning her a third place finish. In her individual events, she placed first in vault with a 9.625, third in bars with a 9.1, ninth in beam with a 9.2, and fourth in floor with a 9.225.
In the Senior A 12- and 13-year-old category, Elyssa Roeder also had a personal season record all-around score of 35.725, earning her a 14th place finish. She placed 11th in the beam with a 9.2, and 17th in the floor with a 9.05.
In the Senior B 13 and 14 age group, Carissa Castagno had an all-around score of 33.075, and placed 13th in the vault with a 9.3.
