Wildcat Volleyball started the season with a non-league match against Kentwood High School at Covington Sept. 8.
Head coach Bonnie Foote led the team, as she previously led one audience member, former student, 2012 Olympic silver medalist and 2014 World Champion Courtney Thompson.
The varsity team lost the first round, 17-25 and won the second, 25-21. They lost the last two games 23-25 and 17-25, giving Kentwood the win.
Haley Holmberg had 11 kills for the night and 3 digs, followed in kills by Patience Oneal, who had 8, plus a dig.
Other Wildcat highlights included Sophie Click’s 4 kills, 5 digs and an assist; Courtney Carr, 3 kills, 25 assists, and 7 digs; Harper Click and Katie McCreadie with 2 kills each, plus a dig for McCreadie; Katie Larson with an assist, 4 aces and 10 digs; Amanda Harkleroad, 2 assists and 6 digs; and Cameron Kendall with 32 digs and an assist.
In the junior varsity match, the Wildcats won the night in three very competitive rounds, 25-21, 19-25 and 15-10.
Top hitters for Mount Si were Bellah Gogan with 2 kills and Annalise Jensen with 3 kills. Karlie Stewart, with 3 aces and Dana Kenow with 4 were the top servers. Stewart also had an assist and 5 digs; Kenow had 2 assists and 6 digs.
Emma Anderson directed the offense with 9 assists, and on defense, with 2 blocks and 6 digs. Sara Kaitlyn Mitchell had 4 kills, served up 2 aces and made 5 digs. Jessica Hanners made 3 digs. Emma Anderson had a kill, 9 assists, 2 aces 6 digs and 2 blocks. Haley West scored 3 kills and a block.
On Thursday, Sept. 10, Mount Si took on Shorewood at Shoreline, in another non-league match. Both varsity and JV came away with losses.
Varsity squad highlights included 6 kills for Oneal plus 7 digs, 3 kills each for Harper Click and Haley Holmberg and 2 kills for McCreadie. Click also made 2 blocks, Holmberg served 3 aces and made 14 digs a block and McCreadie had a dig. Sophie Click also scored a kill, plus 2 digs. Harkleroad added 5 digs to her stats, Cameron Kendall had 4, Courtney Carr had 7 digs plus 16 assists and Larson served 2 aces and 14 digs.
The junior varsity team’s highlights included 5 kills from Mitchell, plus 2 aces and 9 digs, followed by Lilly Bachand and Gogan, each with 3 kills. Bachand also served up an ace and a dig, Gogan served 4 aces and 5 digs. Jensen made 2 kills, and Stewart and Riley Ovall each made one. Steward also had an ace, dig and a block for the night. Kenow served up one ace and 14 digs, Anderson had 10 assists and 5 aces and Hanners had 8 assists and 4 digs. Next week, Mount Si hosts Everett, 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14.
