The Mount Si High School boys soccer team has been slugging it out this season in a super competitive league.
Despite an overall 8-2 record, the Wildcats stand at 3-2 in the 4A King Co District, which is currently led by Redmond and Issaquah.
“We’re trying to focus on every game,” said Ben Tomlisson, who took over as head coach four years ago. “We’re in the mix at the moment, which is a good position to be in.”
One key to Mount Si’s success has been team captain and midfielder Zach Ramsey, who scored 16 goals in the team’s first nine games. Ramsey, a senior, will play soccer next season at the University of Washington while majoring in aeronautical and astronautical engineering.
“He’s the hardest working player on the team. He’s creative and supportive of teammates,” Tomlisson said. “He’s the player that makes us tick.”
Another key to success, according to the coach, is the effort to build solid team chemistry, starting with an overnight retreat to Ellensburg after tryouts at the beginning of the season.
“We’ve got a number of great kids that help knit the team together,” Tomlisson said. “We’re trying to build character and build results.”
Tomlisson expects the Wildcats to be in contention for the team’s final four games of the season. The Wildcats will face Inglemoor on April 16, Eastlake on April 19, Redmond on April 23 and Newport (Bellevue) on April 26.
