The boys of the Mount Si High School golf squad are now 2008 Kingco boys golf champions.
The team rolled to the title at the Kingco Golf Tournament, held Monday, Oct. 13 at Snohomish Golf Course. Wildcat junior Bradley Harrelson won the individual league title, firing a 72 to grab the medalist honors for the event. Jack Kelly shot a 76 to get second place; Mike Rutledge fired a 77 for third place; Luke Dietsch carded a 78 for sixth place; Matt Prewett had a 79 for eighth; and Bryce Karalus brought home an 82, enough for a solid 11th place finish. All six of these golfers qualified for this week’s Sea-King tournament at Harbour Pointe in Mukilteo.
Wildcat coach Mike Johnston was elated with the team’s accomplishment.
“It’s a real joy to coach such a focused group of golfers,” he said. “They are all about the business at hand, which is to play your best and help the team. I’m real proud of them.”
“Winning the league tournament was a really big boost for me,” said Harrelson.
“We did a good job as a team and winning as a team,” he added.
“It’s an honor to be part of such a good team,” added Kelly.
Unlike the regular season, these scores were for a full 18 holes; the regular season matches only play nine holes.
Mount Si as a team scored a 382, beating second place Mercer Island (404) by a staggering 22 shots.
With all six having made it, look for at least three or four of them to make it out of that event into the state tournament this spring.
If all six make it to state, this team will be among the favorites to win it all.
