Women can learn the basics of outdoor skills at a weekend workshop at Carnation’s Camp River Ranch taught by Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife experts and certified instructors.

The annual workshop, which runs Sept. 18 to 20, is being organized by Washington Outdoor Women (WOW), a non-profit program for teaching women outdoor skills and natural resource stewardship.

Classes will cover skills such as archery, basic fishing, fly fishing, kayaking, cooking wild game, big-game hunting, map and compass reading, wilderness first aid, wildlife awareness and outdoor photography.

Workshop participants must be at least 18 years old. A current Washington recreational fishing license is required for the fishing and fly-fishing sessions.

The $235 cost covers all weekend expenses. Some partial scholarships for new participants.
